J Brent Rollins, DVM
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Rollins is a 1967 graduate of Colorado State University where he received his DVM. He grew up in Phoenix, attending Osborn grade school, Washington High School and Arizona State University. His interest in horses came from his dad's Thoroughbred Racing Business (started on the end of a pitchfork and ended up with a trainer's license before Vet School).

After receiving his DVM, he served for three years as a captain in the US Army in Fort Detrick, MD. After the service, Dr. Rollins completed an Equine Internship at the University of California, Davis, Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In July 1971, he entered private equine practice in North Phoenix and has remained since. Twenty five of these years have been in a rewarding partnership with Dr. Clement, who retired in 2000. Dr. Rollins feels his greatest accomplishment is his family. Brent and Francie have been married since June 1st, 1963. They have five wonderful children and 21 grandchildren (at last count).

Martin G. Crabo, DVM
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Crabo grew up in the Midwest, and as the son and grandson of veterinarians, had no trouble running the family's cattle, horse and crop farm during his high school years. Likewise, the decision to become a veterinarian was an easy one. After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990, Dr. Crabo completed an internship in Large Animal Medicine & Surgery at Washington State University. In July of 1991, Dr. Crabo joined Chaparral Animal Hospital which later became Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center in 2008. Dr. Crabo is married to Barbara, a horse trainer and riding instructor who loves three-day eventing. Together they have a daughter named Jordan, 7 horses, 3 dogs and 1 cat on their "ranch," Four Peaks Farm. When the two of them get a rare chance to get away, the Crabos enjoy horse shows, scuba diving, and snow skiing together. Professionally, Dr. Crabo's interests include general equine practice, equine sports medicine & lameness, and equine reproduction.

C. Renee Andrea, DVM, Dipl ACVS
Equine Veterinarian
Surgery

Dr. Andrea joined Chaparral in December 2001, as our first board certified surgeon. She is a 1994 graduate of Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, after which she completed an internship here in Arizona. She then spent three years at the University of California at Davis as a resident in equine surgery, where her area of research was in equine orthopedics. Dr. Andrea became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1999. Although she specializes in all area of equine surgery and lameness, Dr. Andrea's major interests are in equine orthopedics, reconsructive surgery, and horses with acute abdominal disease. Dr. Andrea and her husband Mike Freeland reside in Desert Hills, Arizona. They have two sons, Canon and Shea. Together they enjoy a lot of outdoor activities, but most of their time is spent with the family's rope and barrel horses.

Elaine Carpenter, DVM, MS, Dipl ACVS
Equine Veterinarian
Surgery

Dr. Carpenter is one of our board certified surgeons. Originally from Mammoth Lakes, California, she completed veterinary school at Louisiana State University and a one-year equine internship here in Phoenix at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center. Following her internship, she embarked on a three-year large animal surgical residency at Colorado State University where she completed her masters degree in equine surgery. After becoming board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, she spent three years as the staff surgeon at Peninsula Equine, a referral surgical facility in the San Francisco Bay area. With a board certification in surgery also comes a specialty in lameness. She enjoys working on those subtle or difficult to diagnose lamenesses and finds them very rewarding. In her spare time she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including hiking and rock climbing.

Evelyn Williamson, DVM
Small Animal Veterinarian
A 1985 graduate of Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Williamson joined our practice in October 2001. She moved to the warmth and sunshine of Arizona after selling her practice in New Hampshire (brrr). Dr. Williamson is a small animal practitioner with special interests in internal medicine and dermatology. She spent her first five years in Arizona with a large corporate practice, where she was responsible for five hospitals. She then went on to practice as a relief veterinarian in her own business, filling in for many hospitals across the valley. After working in more than 20 different hospitals in the area, Dr. Williamson decided to once again "settle down." She joined Chaparral Animal Hospital (now Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center) where she could consistently practice the high quality medicine she enjoys!

Kimberly A. Gryl, DVM
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Gryl is a 2004 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined Chaparral Animal Hospital in June 2004 (now Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center), where she completed a 1-year Internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery. An all-around animal lover, Dr. Gryl enjoys all aspects of Equine Veterinary Practice. In her free time you can find her on the beach, partaking in water sports, or hiking with her dogs.

Nicole C. Tavel, DVM
Equine and Small Animal Veterinarian
Dr. Tavel moved to beautiful Arizona after growing up on a horse farm in Indiana. Following graduation from vet school at Purdue University, she completed an equine internship at Elgin Veterinary Hospital in South Texas. After south Texas, she practiced Small Animal Medicine at a large hospital back in Indiana. Drawn to the sun, Dr. Tavel and her husband Brad, who is also a veterinarian, enjoy hiking, water sports and traveling. Dr. Tavel has a Great Dane and three cats. Her professional interests include small and large animal internal medicine, equine reproduction, neonatology, and ophthalmology.

Katie Harrington
Equine Veterinarian Intern
Dr. Harrington knew she wanted to be an equine veterinarian by the time she was 9 years old. Her passion grew out of countless hours spent riding on calls and working with a close family friend who was an equine veterinarian. Prior to completing her veterinary education at WSU-CVM in Pullman, Washington, she earned her MBA and worked for 8 years as an IT manager for AT&T and Cingular wireless. She left a promising career to pursue her dream of becoming an equine veterinarian in 2005. In her time off, Dr. Harrington enjoys running with her dog Emmie, backpacking, and spending time with her family.

Krystal Willson
Office Manager
Krystal is an Arizona native with an extreme love for animals. She has always loved animals, in fact she says "I took my first steps at Turf Paradise race track and have been an animal lover ever since." She now has a barnful of her own, including horses, cats and dogs. She is very excited to have found a career where she can be involved with animals and their caring owners too! Krystal takes every opportunity to further her knowledge of the profession, so much that sometimes we need to strap her to her receptionist's chair! Next time your at our office be sure to say hello, she will likely be the first smiling face you'll see.

Roberta Lopez
Receptionist
Roberta moved to Phoenix from New Mexico in 1989. She and her husband, Ismail, have two children, two grandchildren, a yellow lab, and a Quarter Horse Draft cross. When she is not busy caring for her kids or pets, she enjoys flying with her husband or attending sporting events.

Janique Olivas
Receptionist
Janique was born and raised in Arizona. She is so happy to have become a part of CVMC and loves getting up every day knowing she gets to be around and help animals. She has been a huge animal lover as long as she can remember. Janique is very lucky to have amazing parents who always allowed her to keep all the animals she found on the street and would bring home. Janique plans to be continue her education in Office Administration and Business Management. When she's not working, Janique enjoys riding horses with her family, going to the movies, working out, laughing, and cuddling with her animals. Janique's family has 4 horses, 4 dogs and 3 cats, that she would do anything for!!

Amanda Smith
Receptionist
Pharmacy Technician

Amanda is a wonderful person with lots of youthful zest and an eagerness to learn. She strives daily to accomplish her goals of being a top equine technician as well as being a part of the surgery team. Amanda is well liked at Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center due to her teasing friendly attitude. She takes great care of her ambulatory doctor and those clients / patients she comes into contact with. Amanda's hobbies are taking care of her family's racing thoroughbreds and roping off her fabulous palomino "Cody". She spends many hours conditioning and ground training yearling thoroughbreds who ultimately go to sale.

Sharon Uraine
Equine Veterinary Technician
Sharon joined Chaparral Animal Hospital in May 2005 (now Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center). She is an Arizona Native and has been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 1994. She has two quarter horses and enjoys riding. Among her other veterinary technician duties, Sharon is one of our surgical anesthetists.

Justin Bitsilly
Equine Anesthesia Technician
Justin joined Chaparral Animal Hospital in February 2006 (now Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center). He brings seven years of equine technician experience, with five of those years as an anesthesia technician, to the clinic. He is an Arizona native, newly married to his wife Patty and has spent most of his life around horses. Justin enjoys his work and loves to be challenged by the complex nature of being an anesthesia technician. He loves to motivate the staff through storytelling and practical jokes! In his spare time, Justin enjoys riding, caring for the family livestock, hiking, camping and biking.

Alycia Hagenmaier
Small Animal Technician
Alycia joined us at Chaparral in Feburary 2007. She is a native of Phoenix and is a student at Arizona State University West. She is a lover of all animals and currently has two dogs, a cat, and a ferret. It has always been her dream to work with animals and further her education in the field. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Brooke Taranton came back to Chaparral in October 2008. She was born in San Diego, CA. Brooke really enjoys working with mares and foals. She has four horses, Boss, Taz, Ty, and Indio, and two dogs, Sierra and Maui.

Kaitlyn Browne
Equine Technician
Kaitlyn was born on a custom haying ranch in the small town of Nothe Powder, Oregon; where the cattle and horses out-number people 50:1. Her high school days were spent in FFA livestock judging, rodeo, running barrels, and team roping. She moved to Arizona in December of 2007 and recieved a job as a night hospital nurse here at Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center. Horses have been her world; owning four of her own, as well as a dog and cat. She looks forward to attending Scottsdale Community College and then ASU for pre-vet, while furthering her knowledge at Chaparral.

Rachelle Sherron
Small Animal Technician
Rachelle joined Chaparral in October 2008. She has worked in the veterinary field for a year prior to joining the Chaparral team. Rachelle was born in Helena, MT and has been an Arizona resident for over 20 years. Rachael has a young son, three cats, and two dogs.

Robyn Reed
Equine Technician
Robyn joined Chaparral in June of 2008. Being a horse lover, her passion is riding and showing her Arabian horse Farraoh. She has competed at many top events such as the Scottsdale Arabian horse show and the US Arabian Nationals. In her free time, Robyn enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and spending time at home with her dog Lily and her cat Lt. Dan.
